Stuart Forbes established SF Analyticon Limited to provide specialist analytical chemistry consultancy services, particularly to petroleum, petrochemical and speciality chemical businesses. With some 35 years experience as an industrial chemist working for Shell in UK and the Netherlands, Stuart has contributed to a wide variety of projects across the product, process, environmental and regulatory sectors.

Stuart recently retired as Team Leader of the Separations, Spectroscopy and Thermal Analysis Group at Shell's Thornton Laboratory, having previously worked at Shell's Sittingbourne and Amsterdam Laboratories. In recent years he led Shell's work on the characterisation of petroleum substances and chemicals for REACH, and acted as CONCAWE's analytical expert in discussions with ECHA on substance identification of petroleum products. Prior to his retirement Stuart was Chairman of the Energy Institute SC-G2 (Organic Analysis) Panel and a member of the SC-G4 (Spectroscopy) Panel. He is a former Chairman and current Honorary Secretary of the RSC N.W. Region Analytical Division, and has previously served on various RSC national committees.

During his career, Stuart played a major role in multi-disciplinary teams engaged in developing new products and in assessing the potential environmental and human health risks associated with these materials. He established a wide network of contacts across industry, research organisations, academia and contract laboratories, made numerous presentations at conferences and workshops, and published work on a variety of subjects.
